Portfolios > Process

The initial stages of the blocking process usually involve breaking the horizontal surface up into bands on the wheel, marked out with a sharp tool. Once the horizontal lines are marked in, and I can see how much space I have to work with, I'll select a pattern from my encyclopedia that I think will compliment the form well, and will translate successfully into the amount of vertical space thatI have to work with on each particular pot. I use an MKM Tools Decorating Disc to mark out the vertical lines evenly, and then begin filling the grid with whatever pattern I've selected.
