Portfolios > Process

On some pieces, once the texture is applied, and the blocking is filled, I'll go back afterwards and highlight the natural joints that are created between the texture blocks by impressing with square or triangular stamps. This requires white a bit of care and finesse to not punch through the wall of the piece, and I tend to throw fairly thin, and the carving process renders the wall even thinner. The carving tends to happen when the clay is on the drier side, s that I get a nice clean, sharp edge to the cuts, so occasionally, I'll have to re-wet the piece to soften it a bit to avoid cracking when I go to impress the stamps.
